This is based on radioactivation of oxygen within deionised cooling water by gamma rays above 10 MeV and neutrons above 15 MeV. Losses would be detected using a gamma ray detector monitoring process water flow out of the accelerator enclosure. We anticipate that this could be used to provide a segmented, distributed loss monitor system covering the accelerator components closest to locations where radiation is generated.
